LES 2014 Annual Meeting Call for Proposals

LES (USA & Canada)

Dear Seth,

The LES 2014 meeting committee is now accepting workshop proposals for the 2014 Annual Meeting to be held October 5-8 in San Francisco, CA. Proposals will be accepted until February 13, 2014 and notifications will be emailed the week of March 7, 2014.  Submit your proposal here. We invite you to share your perspectives on emerging trends, best practices, and other topics of interest with your peers across a cross-section of leading companies, research institutions, and government laboratories.

Each year, our Annual Meeting scores very highly with meeting attendees. Attendees look forward to workshops as a source of new information, tools and techniques, and best practices that can be taken back from the Annual Meeting to the workplace.

Like the Mid-Year Meeting in New York, the Annual Meeting will feature Sector program tracks designed to be of interest to LES Sectors members. We are accordingly seeking workshop proposals with subject matter relevant to the:

  • Chemicals, Energy, Environmental, and Materials Sector - including, petrochemicals, renewable and green energy, clean technology and nanotechnology;
  • Consumer Products Sector - including, cosmetics, small appliances, consumer durables, consumer electronics, and other household items;
  • High Technology Sector - including, aerospace & transportation, mobile & consumer electronics, clean tech, digital content, gaming IP & technology, nanotechnology, semiconductor, and software;
  • Life Sciences Sector - including, pharmaceutical, biotech, bio-medical devices, and diagnostics & genomics segments; and
  • Industry-University-Government Interface Sector - including interaction and collaboration between licensing and technology transfer professionals and the greater financial community.

LES Sector representatives have identified the following topic areas to be of particular interest:

  • New technologies, significant new sector developments, and their implications for IP-based businesses (such as technology driven start-ups) and IP transactions;
  • Legal, legislative, and regulatory developments (e.g. America Invents Act and pending patent legislation) and its impact on IP management, strategy, and licensing, both in the US and abroad.
  • Legal and business issues relevant to confidential information and trade secrets, including confidentiality in dealings with governmental agencies, management of protected information, and implications of signing CDAs/NDAs;
  • IP across international boundaries, including importing products patented in country of import and valuing international licensing opportunities;
  • Other issues relevant to emerging trends and best practices in IP management, strategy, and transactions.

LES survey research indicates that Annual Meeting workshop attendees value discussion and interaction with experienced, senior corporate executives. Preference will accordingly be given to workshops that include such panelists.

Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to your contributions to the 2014 Annual Meeting.
